剣術、杖術、抜刀術、体術などの「美しさ」。
それは、表裏が一体となった「理に適った動き」からきています。
「『表』とは目に見えやすい部分、『裏』とは目に見えにくい部分のことです」。古武術の技をこのように説明する金山孝之先生。そして稽古では特に「裏の働き・動き」に意識を置くことが上達のポイントです。
例えば剣を扱う時、速く振ることだけに囚われると、前腕や肩に不必要な力みが生じ、刃筋がブレた遅い斬りになります。この時に必要なのは、剣の力を最大限に引き出すための「手の内」と「膝の抜き」です。
「裏の動き」とは、この「手の操作」と「脚の操作」です。そして「振る」という「表の動き」と最適なバランスを取ることで、剣と体は最も理屈に適った動きになります。これが、見る者へは「美しさ」として伝わります。
また、表裏の一体は武術の「速さ」にも通じます。細部（裏）まで意識を渡らせていくことで動きの「滞り」がなくなり、相手にとっては「動きの切れ目」が捉えにくい（反応しにくい）技となるのです。
そして、細部まで精確な技に「実（意識）」が加わることで「迫力」となり、相手を圧倒する技となります。
これらの武術観を基に、剣術、杖術、抜刀術、体術のポイントを丁寧に解説。古武術の理論・体の使い方に興味を持つ方にお勧めのDVDとなっています。
