日本の「柔道」は、西洋の「拳闘（ボクシング）」に勝てたのか？
最強の格闘技は何だろう？ 強さに憧れた者なら、誰もが一度は考えたはずだ。
その答えを出すべく、1993年にはUFCがスタートし、グレイシー柔術が一世を風靡した。しかし現在では、総合格闘技も一つの格闘技として確立し、異種格闘技戦の色は限りなく薄まっている。
UFC以前に遡れば、おそらく日本で最も有名な異種格闘技試合は、アントニオ猪木対モハメド・アリ戦ではないだろうか。組み技とパンチ、それぞれの得意分野に持ち込むため展開が単調となり、異種試合成立の難しさを露呈した。
