素面素手（女子は拳サポーターあり）により、加撃寸前で技を"極める"ことをルールとする空手協会の組手。
その頂点を決する第61回全国大会の男子優勝者・根本敬介選手は何と39歳！ 身体能力は30歳から落ちるといわれる中、この驚異的な結果（史上最多６度目制覇）は「空手の鍛錬・稽古で年齢の壁を越える」生きたお手本。さらに静から動に一気に爆発する組手はとても勉強になります。
また女子優勝の高橋千春選手が放つ防御不能（！）の高速二段突きは「あれは空手の形にある動きです（中達也先生）」。伝統派の組手、めちゃめちゃ面白いです！
